Agility made its debut as a dog demonstration at Crufts in 1978. It consists of a sequence of obstacles which the dog has to negotiate against the clock. A dog that completes the course correctly with in the course time will achieve a 'clear round' Faults are awarded for errors just like showjumping. The winner is the quickest dog with the lowest number of faults. Dogs of all different sizes can compete in their own class. Large Dogs are over 430mm at the withers, Medium Dogs are between 350mm and 430mm and Small Dogs are under 350mm. Dogs must be 18 months of age and fit to compete.
There are several levels of agility beginning at Grade 1 and progressing to Grade 7 which then entitles that dog to compete in championship classes. The higher the grade the more complicated the layout of the course and the more skills the dog and handler are required to learn.
We will let you all know when we next plan to hold a introduction to agility day at our purpose built training field nr Gullane. Classes will be small with approx 5 - 6 dogs in each group. Over the space of 1 hr you and your dog will be assisted by our vastly experienced trainers to negotiate all the main agility obstacles. Cost will be £5 per dog and handler. All training is done using toys & titbit's. Equipment will be very low and will be supervised at all times so that no harm can come to your dog. This day is designed to allow people to decide if they would like to do agility training with their dog. After the class you will be given advice on whether your dog is able to continue with training classes, some of the reasons may be that the dog is just a little to young, may need some additional obedience training or your dog may not be fit enough.

There are new agility classes for beginners starting soon. There are also weekday morning & afternoon spaces available.
All classes are taught at our purpose built training field which is situated just outside Gullane, East Lothian. Your dog needs to be at least 11months old to start training in class and must be fairly fit. All classes are taught using kind, positive motivational training methods and are taught by our highly experienced instructors. Classes are small with no more than 5 dogs & handlers in a class. To join the class your dog needs a fairly reliable recall, a stay is a bonus. Agility is good fun for dogs & handlers and is an excellent way to create a bond between a dog and their owner. We have handlers aged from 12yrs to 70yrs so as you can see there is no age restriction on the handlers as long as they are having fun.

If your dog isn't so good with other dogs 1-2-1 training is also available. Last year a few people even bought an agility lesson as a gift for Xmas or birthday gifts, makes a nice change and something very different for the dog lover you may know.
